Garnishment

Garnishment is a last ditch effort by creditors to hit you where it hurts...by hitting your paycheck or bank accounts.

A garnishment is a legal remember authorized by a court that is the result of a judgment having been taken against you by a creditor.

There are two different forms of garnishment, wage and nonwage….both are debilitating to a family.

  • Nonwage garnishment is a procedure where a judgment creditor attempts to garnish funds in a bank account.
  • Wage garnishment is used when the creditor has determined that the debtor is gainfully employed, and the garnishment will attach to the debtor’s paycheck.

If your wages have been garnished by a creditor don’t bury your head in the sand! Once the money is garnished and sent to the creditor it is gone. But we can help you! Filing a Chapter 7 Bankruptcy or Chapter 13 Bankruptcy can stop a garnishment in it’s tracks.
